Correcting Shoulder Asymmetry in Overhead Press
When pushing heavy overhead press, my right side locks out noticeably faster than my left side. The bar goes up slightly tilted. Anyone else deal with this imbalance, and how did you correct it?
Re: Correcting Shoulder Asymmetry in Overhead Press
Ditch the barbell for overhead presses immediately. Switch entirely to standing single-arm dumbbell overhead presses or dual dumbbell overhead press. Force each shoulder to lift independently.

Check your thoracic mobility. Sometimes a lag on one side is actually a rotational restriction in your mid-back, meaning you cannot fully open up that side over your center of gravity.

I had this exact issue. Turned out to be a tight lower lat on the weaker side anchor-dragging my scapula down and preventing smooth overhead rotation.

When you do the dumbbells, always start with your weak side. Let the weak side set the maximum rep limit for the strong side so the gap closes over time.

Interesting about the lat tightness. My left lat is definitely always tighter from sleeping awkwardly. I will work on tissue release there.

Do plenty of face pulls and band pull-aparts. Imbalances often manifest from weak upper back stabilizers that cant support the heavy barbell path uniformly.

Kettlebell bottoms-up presses are incredible for forcing the stabilization mechanics to normalize between both shoulders.

Will do. I will get some video next shoulder workout. For now, dropping the barbell and going strictly to dumbbells seems like the safest approach.
