How Many Sets are Ideal for Strength Development?

Post by Charles Harris »

When it comes to building strength, more isn’t always better. Most lifters seem to get great results with 3–5 sets of 3–6 reps on big lifts.
It’s about lifting heavy, using good form, and resting enough between sets.
What’s your go-to set/rep scheme for strength? Let’s compare notes. 💪

For strength? I stick to 3–5 sets per compound lift. Low reps, heavy weight. Quality > quantity.

I do 5 sets of 3–5 reps for squats and dead lifts. Strength has been going up steadily. Rest time is key too.

If you're chasing PRs, 4 sets of 5 with progression every week works wonders. Keep it simple, bro.

I mix 3 sets for accessories, 5 for heavy lifts. Joints keep happy and gain solid. Image

I’ve tried high volume, but for pure strength. Low reps, more rest, fewer sets work best for me.

3–5 sets, 3–6 reps, 2–3 min rest. It’s not sexy, but it works. Strength is all about patience and consistency.

Bro, just focus on progressive overload. It doesn’t matter if it’s 3 or 6 sets just lift heavier over time.
