Heavy vs. Light – Which Builds More Muscle?
Re: Heavy vs. Light – Which Builds More Muscle?
Bro, heavy weight builds the base. If you’re not grinding in the 5–8 rep range, you’re just chasing a pump. Pump looks good in the mirror, but mass comes from moving big weight.

I mix both heavy compounds at the start, then drop the weight and chase that skin-splitting pump. Best of both worlds.

For me, heavy on push days, lighter on pull. Keeps the elbows happy but still lets me move some iron.

My shoulders don’t play nicely with big weight, so I keep it light up top. Legs though? If you’re not loading them heavy, they just sit there looking the same.

Tried every rep range over the years my body just reacts best to heavy weight in the lower rep range.

Light weight only works for me when I’m in a cut. In a bulk, I’m staying heavy as long as my form holds.

My sweet spot is heavy main lift, then drop sets to burn it out. Gains and pumps in one session.
