Meal Timing – Does It Really Matter?

I keep hearing mixed opinions on meal timing. Some swear by eating every 3 hours, others say it’s just total calories and protein that count. Have you personally noticed a difference in strength, energy or recovery based on when you eat?

For me, total daily intake is what matters. I ate 3 big meals and still grew just fine.

I feel better with 4–5 smaller meals spread out. It keeps me fueled for training and no mid-day crashes.

Pre-workout meal timing is the biggest factor. If I eat a solid meal 60–90 mins before, my lifts feel stronger.

That’s the one I’m struggling with, sometimes I go in on an empty stomach and feel flat.

We used to eat every 2–3 hours religiously back in the day. Still works, but honestly, it’s more about keeping hunger away than anything magical.

I did intermittent fasting for a while. If I nailed my macros, my strength didn’t really dip.

post-workout is key. I try to get protein + carbs within 30–45 mins after. It feels like recovery kicks in faster.

I just keep it simple: breakfast, lunch, dinner and a shake after lifting. Never overthink it.

Meal timing matters way more when you’re cutting. Smaller meals keep energy up and cravings under control when calories are low.
