Anyone Else Struggling to Hit Protein Without Living on Shakes?

Post by Michael Peyton »

It feels like every fitness conversation these days comes back to protein goals, meal prep, and getting enough grams in without turning every meal into a full-time job. 💪 Shakes are convenient, especially when you're rushing between work, training, and everything else, but I don't want to rely on two or three scoops every single day just to hit my target.
I've been trying to get more protein from regular foods like eggs, Greek yogurt, chicken, tuna, cottage cheese, and ground beef, but some days it's honestly harder than it sounds. The calories add up, meal prep gets repetitive, and eating another chicken breast when you're already full isn't exactly exciting. 😂
I'm curious how everyone else is handling this, especially those of you lifting consistently and trying to build muscle without spending a fortune on supplements. Are you using simple high-protein meals, sneaky food swaps, or just keeping a shake around for emergencies? What's your go-to move when you're short on protein at the end of the day? 👇

Greek yogurt is clutch for this. Easy protein without even turning on the stove. 💯

Eggs and egg whites have been my go-to lately. I'll make a quick scramble with some cheese and throw it in a breakfast burrito, and suddenly breakfast actually keeps me full until lunch. Way better than forcing down another shake.

I started keeping cottage cheese in the fridge, and it's honestly underrated. I'll mix it with hot sauce and eat it with crackers, or blend it into a dip when I want something different. It's an easy way to add protein without making another whole meal. 🔥

Ground turkey, rice, and frozen veggies have been my meal-prep combo for months. It's cheap, easy to track, and I can switch up the seasonings so I'm not eating the same flavor every day. I save shakes for when my schedule gets crazy instead of making them the foundation of my diet.

That's exactly what I'm trying to do—make regular food the main source and keep shakes as backup. The biggest struggle is finding enough variety so meal prep doesn't get boring by Wednesday. 😅

Fairlife milk has helped me bump up my protein without adding another meal. 🥛

Honestly, I stopped chasing some massive protein number just because fitness influencers say everyone needs it. I focus on getting a solid serving at each meal, then check where I land at the end of the day. It's much easier to stay consistent when you're not stressing over every single gram.
