New Lifters Are Wrecking Themselves What’s the Biggest Mistake?

Post by Charles Harris »

Every gym has newbies ego-lifting, skipping warm-ups, and copying dumb stuff online. If you could tell your younger self one thing to avoid getting hurt, what would it be?

Ego lifting, hands down. New dudes slap on plates just to impress nobody. Form breaks, joints take the hit, and boom sidelined.

Skipping warm-ups like they’re optional. You don’t need a 30-min yoga class, but jumping straight to heavy weight is asking for trouble.

Facts. I see dudes walk in, load a bar, no ramp-up sets, then wonder why their shoulder’s cooked two weeks later.

Copying influencers is a big one. Just because some shredded dude does weird angles and partials doesn’t mean it’s beginner-friendly.

Training through pain like it’s “hardcore.” Pain isn’t grind. Pain is your body telling you to chill before it snaps.

Yep. Younger me thought soreness and sharp pain were the same thing. Learned the hard way after a tweaked lower back.

No rest days. Guys think more days = more gains. Nah, recovery is where you grow. Beat up joints don’t build muscle.

Bad setup on compounds. Squat walkout trash, deadlift bar too far, bench grip all over the place. Small stuff adds up fast.
