Building Stronger Glutes Without Losing Overall Balance

Post by Lilly »

I’ve been focusing more seriously on building my glutes and lower body, but I don’t want my training to become completely lower-body focused. I currently lift 4 days a week with two lower-body sessions, one upper-body day, and one full-body day. I also get regular steps and some light cardio. For women who have been training consistently, how do you balance glute growth with overall strength and proportions? I’d love to hear what has actually worked for you in the gym.

Two lower-body days have been plenty for me.

I focus on progressive overload rather than adding more exercises every week.

I had better results once I started prioritizing recovery. More training wasn't automatically giving me more growth.

I train glutes twice weekly and make sure my upper body gets enough attention too. My routine feels much more balanced now.

For me, tracking reps and weights has made the biggest difference. I can see whether I’m actually getting stronger instead of relying only on photos or the scale.

I used to spend way too much time on lower-body workouts because I thought more volume meant faster results. Eventually, I reduced the number of exercises, focused on better form, and started recovering properly between sessions. My workouts are shorter now, but my strength has improved consistently.

This is helpful. I’m realizing I probably don’t need to keep adding more glute exercises when I’m already progressing on my main lifts.

I also keep some cardio in my routine because I enjoy it, but I don’t let it interfere with my lifting. My main goal is still getting stronger while maintaining a physique that feels athletic and balanced.

I think the biggest mistake is comparing your routine with someone else's. Some women respond well to two lower-body days, while others need a little more or less volume. I’d rather start with a manageable routine, track performance for several weeks, and adjust based on actual progress.
