Fitness is full of strange tips—let’s talk about them!
About This Thread:
Have you ever heard someone say carbs after 6 p.m. turn into fat or that you need to eat raw eggs like Rocky? Share the weirdest nutrition advice you’ve come across and let’s debunk myths or laugh about them together.
Oh man, I’ve heard some wild stuff over the years. Here’s a classic:
“Eating ice cubes burns fat because your body has to heat them up.”
I fell for this one as a teenager. I legit sat there chomping on ice thinking I’d melt away fat. Spoiler: it didn’t work.
What’s the weirdest tip you’ve heard?
@EthanBrown, LOL, I heard that one too! The fitness world is full of weird myths.
One guy told me, “If you skip breakfast, your body goes into starvation mode and stores fat.” I used to force myself to eat in the morning even when I wasn’t hungry. Turns out, intermittent fasting is totally fine if it works for you.
“Drink a gallon of milk a day to bulk up.” GOMAD (Gallon Of Milk A Day) was all the rage for a while, and I actually tried it. The result? Sure, I gained weight... but most of it wasn’t muscle. Plus, my stomach hated me for months.
@JakeAnderson, GOMAD?! That sounds like a one-way ticket to Lactose City.
Here’s my favorite bad advice: “Drink black coffee before every meal to burn fat faster.” Sure, caffeine can help with energy, but drinking coffee ALL the time made me jittery, and it did nothing for fat loss. Lesson learned.
“If you eat spicy food every day, you’ll burn more calories and lose weight faster.”
I love spicy food, so I thought, “Why not?” But all I got was heartburn and a craving for milk (which didn’t help with calorie burning either). Not worth it!
@OliviaWilson, the spicy food myth is wild! Here’s one I heard:
“Only eat green foods to detox your body.” Someone legit told me to eat just spinach, broccoli, and cucumbers for a week. I tried it for two days before I caved. Turns out, “detoxing” is nonsense—your liver and kidneys do that for you.
@RobertJohn, yep, the “detox” myth is everywhere! Speaking of nonsense, here’s another gem:
“Eat grapefruit every morning to ‘melt fat.’” I love grapefruit, so I thought it was a win-win. But after a month of eating it every day, I didn’t lose any extra weight. Grapefruit’s great, but it’s not a miracle food.
“If you don’t eat protein within 30 minutes after your workout, all your gains are gone.”
I used to sprint home from the gym like a madman just to chug a protein shake. Turns out, the anabolic window isn’t THAT short—you’ve got a few hours to refuel. Live and learn, right?
I’m dying reading all these! Thanks for sharing, everyone.
Here’s one that got me for years: “Carbs after 6 p.m. turn into fat.” I used to panic every time I ate something at night. Turns out, it’s about total calories, not the time of day. Late-night oatmeal is now my go-to snack, and I’m still hitting my goals.
