For me, it’s strength plus better movement. I don’t care if I leave the gym completely exhausted anymore.

For me, it’s hip airplanes. They’re harder than they look 😂, but they’ve helped me with hip control and balance, especially on single-leg work.

I’m doing a pretty basic upper/lower split and using double progression. It’s not exciting on paper, but it keeps me consistent and I’m still seeing my main lifts move up.

Whey protein made the biggest difference for me because it helped me consistently hit my daily protein target. I don't consider it magic, but having an easy protein source made my nutrition much more consistent.

The hunger surprised me, but not because it was unbearable every day. It was more that food is suddenly on your mind all the time. You start planning your next meal while you're still eating the current one.

One thing I wish someone told me is that your first competition doesn't have to be about winning. It's about learning how your body responds, experiencing the process, and understanding what you need to improve for the next show.

Consistency beats intensity. A little cardio year-round works better than panic cardio during cuts.
